Model 1840 Artillery Short Sword - Looks to be a Ames maker, unmarked with maker or inspection stamps. Could be one made for the confederate army ? SCARCE Dated Model 1860 Cavalry Sword - Maker marked, Ames MFG Co Chicopee Mass, dated US JH 1859. Pommel cap inspected with JH. Original leather grip very good with wire fixed & replaced with copper, see last photo. Scabbard is dent free and was painted black at some point, very long ago. Out of the 1859 contract of 5000, 3600 would have been dated 1859, the others dated 1860. Out of 5000 contracted for 1859, 1200 were sent to the state of Virginia, most were believed to be dated 1860. My thoughts would think many were dated 1859 ? before the start of the civil war. - Price is $ 950.00 plus shipping and insurance. Item - SW-7-3198

Not much information found on the maker, BEZDEK Book on American Swords, claims imported for the Civil War, this could be a sleeper & possible confederate used. I regret there is no imformation to give as to where this was recovered. - Price is $ 450.00 plus shipping and insurance. Item - SW-24-468
