Indian War Period New York Hat Insignia - Insignia of the 71st regiment, sheet brass complete with all 4 hooks on reverse, size is 3 1/2" by 4", excellent condition. The 71st New York was formed on October 23, 1850, and was called "The American Rifles" and later "The American Guard.
The 71st served to control the Orange riots of 1871, the railroad riots of July 1877, the switchmen's strike in Buffalo of August 1892, and the motorman's strike of 1895 in Brooklyn.

Civil War French Shako Hat Plate - Relic board made by Bannermans of New York with original insignia, paper label on reverse. The board is 9" wide by 9" painted black. The hat plate was issued to 62d & 83d Pennsylvania, 18th Massachusetts and the 49th & 72d New York with most going to New York. Marine\Militia Cap Insignia - Worn by state Militia 1858 to 1875 and Marines from 1859 to 1861. Brass hat insignia 2 1/4" wide with 3 wires on the reverse. Originally made with 2 small holes for sewing, one remains with the other filled when wires were applied. Infantry Epaulettes w/case - 1st Pennsylvania National Guard Epaulettes with tin carry case. First example I have ever seen of these, they are early circa 1870. The pillows show age & have faded from original bright blue color. Brass springs show age & use with some pulled wire, nothing extreme. All brass shows tarnish & age, both 1st NG buttons intact, the leather undersides remain very good overall. Japanned tin carry case shows age & use, missing the storage insert inside.
